Eltel’s power distribution business wins a new wind power contract in Finland

2016-11-03

Eltel’s power distribution business has won a new contract with Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy to act as the prime contractor to build the infrastructure for a ten turbine wind power park in Raahe in Northern Finland. The new contract is a second order for Eltel from the same customer in a short time. With its service offering for renewable energy and implementation of smart grids, Eltel is one of the leading European technical Infranet services companies contributing to a more sustainable future.

The new wind park consists of 10 wind turbines with 3,45 MW of power each. The scope of Eltel’s delivery will comprise the 33 kV electricity grid in the wind park, data transmission network, road infrastructure, foundations for the turbines and connecting of a substation with the 110 kV regional grid. Suomen Hyötytuuli counts that this new wind park is capable to deliver annual need of electricity to 6 200 homes. The project is starting now and will be completed in spring 2017.

Eltel’s track record in wind power dates back to the beginning of the millennium. The company has provided inspection and maintenance services to the Danish utilities, substations as well as related connections to the grid. Eltel has also implemented several wind power substation projects and grid connections in Poland since 2007.

2011 was a milestone year for Eltel in the Nordic countries as a major scope with two contracts for Statkraft SCA Vind in the North of Sweden were won. These contracts comprised installations of connecting cabling and optical fiber as well as construction of two substations. The installed power of this entire wind park was 145 MW.

In 2012, the first major projects in Finland were started in cooperation with Taaleritehdas Oy to build five wind parks consisting of several dozens of wind turbines. Eltel scope in these contracts was engineering, planning and construction of the electrical infrastructure. The next project was a 51 MW wind power park in Finnish Lapland for an equity investor in 2014-2015.

Juha Luusua, President – Eltel Power Distribution comments:
“Wind power has become a major contributor to the Finnish generation of renewable energy. Eltel’s experience in power grids, substation installations and site infrastructures coupled with our know-how in data transmission networks makes us perfectly positioned for this business. The many contracts that we have won and completed to the satisfaction of our customers are a proof of the experience and competitiveness we have in this field. A repeat order for Suomen Hyötytuuli is another evidence of this. Besides the implementation of new wind parks, Eltel can also provide the operations and maintenance services of wind power grids.”
